Overview

Combat Patrol: Necrons delivers a complete boxed force for anyone looking to field the ancient, undying legions of the Necron dynasties on the tabletop. This kit is designed as an accessible entry point into Warhammer 40,000, giving hobbyists a ready-made army built from plastic push-fit and easy-build components that snap together without the need for glue, making it ideal for newcomers while still offering enough detail and character to satisfy veteran painters and collectors. Inside the box, players find a curated selection of iconic Necron units, typically including a formidable Overlord or similar command figure, ranks of Necron Warriors marching in eerie unison, and fast-attack or specialist units such as Skorpekh Destroyers or Canoptek Scarabs, all sculpted with the sharp geometric linework and haunting, skeletal aesthetic that defines the faction's tomb-world origins.

Beyond the miniatures themselves, this Combat Patrol set includes everything needed to start playing games right out of the box, such as datasheets, a stratagem card, and other reference materials tailored specifically to the included units, allowing new players to jump into matches without needing to consult a separate core rulebook or codex right away. The models are engineered with Games Workshop's modern plastic technology, featuring crisp panel lines, intricate glyphs, and the metallic, alien architecture that Necron armies are known for, giving painters plenty of surface detail to work with when applying metallic finishes, glowing green energy effects, or custom dynasty color schemes. Assembly is straightforward thanks to the push-fit design, though many hobbyists choose to add a small amount of plastic glue for extra durability, especially before diving into more advanced painting techniques like edge highlighting, washes, or airbrushing.

For wargamers and painting enthusiasts alike, this kit represents excellent value, bundling multiple units together at a better price point than purchasing each miniature individually, while also serving as a foundation that can be expanded with additional Necron kits down the line. The Necron aesthetic, blending ancient Egyptian-inspired motifs with cold, otherworldly technology, offers a rewarding painting project for those who enjoy metallics, non-metallic metal techniques, or experimenting with glowing energy weapons and eyes. Whether the goal is building a competitive army for matched play, creating a beautifully painted display force, or simply learning the ropes of miniature assembly and Warhammer 40,000 gameplay, Combat Patrol: Necrons stands as a self-contained, thematically rich package that captures the relentless, unstoppable nature of the Necron dynasties as they awaken to reclaim the galaxy.

Hobbyist notes

Feedback from painters and players who use it.

Perfect start to my Necron army

The models are crisp, snap-fit is mostly clean, and the datacards make jumping into games super easy. Great value for the number of miniatures included.

Solid kit but painting takes patience

Love the variety of units, but the metallic detailing on the Warriors and Destroyers took me longer than expected to paint well. Still very happy with the purchase.

Elena R. ·

Great value box set

Compared to buying these units separately, this box saves a good chunk of money. The Skorpekh Destroyers are a highlight and look fantastic assembled.

Good for new players

As someone new to Warhammer, the included ruler, dice, and mission booklet made learning the game much less intimidating. Assembly was a bit fiddly in places though.
